Many out here in Brazil feel that the French national team have good players who can run down Nigeria when the two countries face each other in the second round of the World Cup on Monday.

Karim Benzema has been touted as the portent striker that would cause trouble for the Super Eagles who rattled Argentina before going down 3 -2.

Stephen Keshi was asked what he thought about the probability of Nigeria facing Karim Benzema. He replied quick as a flash: “And France will be facing Musa, Emenike … ”

There are reasons to be confident after a performance in which Eagles caused problems for Argentina and showed that on a good day, the African champions are as good as any of the teams to go all the way.

“All the teams are good. It doesn’t matter [who you face],” Keshi noted.

“You have to appreciate that. It is only Nigeria that don’t appreciate that. Nigerians always think that every team we face we have to kill them 5-0, 10-0. It doesn’t work that way.”

'Wakanow’ Leaves Over 600 Nigerians Stranded in Sao Paulo #Brazil2014

Wakanow.com, the official travel partners to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, according to reports, has failed to transport over 600 Nigerians that were hoping to watch the World Cup clash between the Super Eagles and Argentina, Wednesday, in Porto Alegre.

Wakanow had promised to move the fans from Sao Paulo to Porto Alegre, Wednesday morning, in time for the kick-off, but that promise was not kept.

“Most of us left Nigeria believing that we were going to Porto Alegre. We were surprised to be brought to Sao Paulo. Many are alleging that this has all the tell tale signs of a scam.” A fan told PM News.

Wakanow reportedly purchased tickets at the last minute for only 50 people to go to Porto Alegre, leaving others stranded.

The fans who are scattered around San Paulo spent a sleepless night waiting for a flight that never materialized. “First they told us 2 pm. Later, we were told 4pm, then 5 pm. They kept shifting the time untill they told us they couldn’t take us there anymore,” another fan said dejectedly.

110 victims of Kaduna attacks get mass burial

KADUNA—NO fewer than 110 victims of Monday and Tuesday’s killings in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State were, yesterday, given mass burial. Chairman of the local government, Mr. Emmanuel Adamu confirmed this development in a telephone interview with Vanguard.

The National Chairman of Ninzom Progressive Youth, Mr. Bezard Wuyah, who also confirmed the mass burial, said those buried included an unnamed Igbo trader and his wife.

The victims were buried in a parcel of land between Gwantu Kurmi and Kobin near the local government. Speaking on the issue, Adamu said:

“We have just finished giving 110 people mass burial this (yesterday) afternoon. We had no choice, because their corpses were decomposing as a result of poor facilities at the hospitals.

“However, not all the dead were given mass burial. Some families were able to identify their loved ones, so they were allowed to take the bodies away.

I cannot give the number of bodies taken away by families. “All those that are injured will be treated by Sanga Local Government free of charge. Normalcy has returned with the beefing up of security in the area.

Today (yesterday) we got eight Toyota Hilux loads of soldiers from Kaduna, who have come to join those already on ground.

“I want to appeal to all the people of Sanga to please forgive and leave vengeance to Almighty God. I beg everyone to remain law abiding, but vigilant.”

On his part, Wuyah said:

“This (yesterday) afternoon, our people who were killed without provocation were buried in a mass grave between Gwantu Kurmi and Kobin.

“It was not only our people that were killed. I am told that an Igbo man, who had lived long in Kobin, was killed along with his wife and his shop burnt by the Fulani herdsmen. “Our land has been desecrated and we are deeply mourning.

We do not expect the government to treat this with levity by taking our peaceful and law abiding nature for granted.”

Meanwhile, the 24 hour curfew imposed on the area is still in force.

UN sanctions B’Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, Ansaru

The United Nations Security Council has sanctioned Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, and a splinter group, Ansaru on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, Shekau is the first individual while Ansaru is the first entity to be so sanctioned since the Islamic militant group was blacklisted.

With this sanction, Shekau and Ansaru will be banned from international travel while their assets would be frozen under the UN al Qaeda sanctions list. Russia had placed a “technical hold” on the designations two weeks ago because it needed more time to review the listings, but diplomats said they lifted the hold on Wednesday, allowing the sanctions to come into force.

Last month, the Security Council al Qaeda Sanctions Committee blacklisted Boko Haram at the request of Nigeria, following global outrage when the group kidnapped more than 250 girls from the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14.

The Islamic militant group was described in the UN listing as an affiliate of al Qaeda and the Organization of al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb. It is subjected to a travel ban, an asset freeze and an arms embargo.

Boko Haram faction Ansaru, blamed for the killing of several Western hostages, is AQIM’s bona fide affiliate in Nigeria, and called itself “al Qaeda in the Land Beyond the Sahara” in a video with a British and Italian hostage in 2011.

Ansaru broke off from the Boko Haram sect in protest after it killed 186 mostly Muslim civilians in Kano in 2012. Shekau is the purported leader of Boko Haram.

A year ago, US Secretary of State, John Kerry, authorised a reward of up to $7m for information leading to his location.

Boko Haram’s five-year-old insurgency is aimed at reviving a medieval Islamic caliphate in modern Nigeria, whose 170 million people are split about evenly between Christians and Muslims.

The group is becoming, by far, the biggest security threat to Africa’s top oil producer.

Some members of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, arrested yesterday at Mairi ward behind University of Maiduguri by members of the Civilian JTF vigilante group, have confessed that most of them are fleeing the Sambisa Forest to areas across Borno State owing to what they believe is spiritual attacks from mysterious snakes and bees, which had killed many of their leaders.



According to Kolo Mustapha, one of the arrested insurgents, “most of us are fleeing because there are too many snakes and bees now in the forest. Once they bite, they disappear and the victims do not last for 24 hours.

“We were told that the aggrieved people who had suffered from our deadly mission, including the ghosts of some of those we killed, are the ones turning into the snake and bees.”

‘Our leaders fled, too’

He said some of their leaders have escaped to Cameroon because they are known to the Nigerian authorities and could be easily identified.

According to him, those of them who lived all their lives in Maiduguri have nowhere to run to. So they returned and tried to sneak into town.

He said they came in last night and were trying to hide in some uncompleted buildings, when some members of the Civilian JTF saw them.

He said: “We are pleading with them to spare our lives. We were forced into the sect. But we know that it is not the right way. I personally have never killed anyone, but I have my friend here who had killed many people.”

Umar Abor, the other arrested sect member said Kolo Mustapha was lying as they had participated in all heinous acts of the sect.

He said: “We have fought together since 2010. We have fought in Marte, Bama, Buni Yadima and Gwoza. We were not in Chibok. We have not seen the girls, but we heard about the issue.

“Our leaders have been talking about it and we have been following all news from the radio. We decided to flee when almost all our comrades are leaving the Sambisa because of constant attacks by snakes and bees, which we were told was as a result of Chibok abducted schoolgirls.

“They (our leaders) told us that it was our enemies and aggrieved people that are hunting us through diabolical means. We were in the forest in 2010 and 2011. We left and came back last year but we have never experienced such attacks.

“That is why they believe the Chibok people are using juju to pursue us because of their children said to have been taken by our leaders.”

‘We‘ll reveal our hiding place’

According to him, they have realised their mistakes and repented, promising that if they are spared they would help the community in fishing out some of their comrades and will lead security agents where their comrades had fled.

One of the leaders of the Civilian JTF said many of the sect members had been fleeing the Sambisa Forest in the past two weeks and that most of them are being arrested and taken to the authorities, except when they resist arrest, in which case they are left with no option but to kill them.

He said: “These ones have not attempted to run or do anything bad. They promise to take us to where they hide their weapons. We are taking them to the chairman of our sector command before they are handed to security operatives.”

Pandemonium broke out today at the University of Jos in Plateau state following an alleged sighting of a male suicide bomber in the school premises.

Students and lecturers all took to their heels on hearing the rumor. (It's almost funny but its too serious).

According to reports, some of the students summoned courage and apprehended the alleged suicide bomber, beating him almost to a pulp before he was saved by security officials.

Man walks into a Restaurant with a 6 Inch Knife stuck in his back.

A man shocked everyone at a McDonald’s in Jamaica, Queens when he walked into the restaurant with a six-inch-knife stuck in his back on Tuesday morning.

According to 7 Online, the 50-year- old man was involved in a fight outside the fast food restaurant. After he was stabbed, he calmly walked into the restaurant as customers watched him call his family to say his final goodbyes.

The 6 inch knife entered the 50-year- old victims back just after 10am during a fight right outside the McDonald’s. Witnesses were shocked that he was walking around not appearing to be in pain.

Police say the stabbing was the result of a dispute involving a large group of people–as many as eight individuals.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition.





Police are still on the hunt for the other men involved in the stabbing.
